Calculate Needs
Fabric to Leather Conversion
This page (and the below diagrams) are intended as a helpful tool for estimating leather square footage. Please keep in mind that these are estimates; you should verify each application with your installer.
Based on an average hide size of 50-55 square feet,
18 sq.ft. of leather = 1 linear yard of 54” wide fabric. Each hide is unique and all hides are irregularly shaped which means there will always be some waste. This calculation takes waste into account, no additional footage needs to be added.
To make the conversion, multiply the fabric requirement (in square feet) by 1.3333 to get the number of square feet of leather to purchase.
